Silk: Your Curl's Bestie!

Why Use Silk?

Having curly hair is a challenge, and we all know how it’s no easy task to take care of and maintaining it.

Compared to other hair types, it needs more moisture because of the lack of natural oils to reach the ends of your hair. That’s why some of the common issues curly-haired people encounter would be dryness, frizz, and tangles.

Now, you may be wondering if there is hope for my hair! Well, of course there is. Among the many things that could help is silk. Silk isn't just pretty. It's pretty functional too!

There are numerous benefits of silk on curly hair, and though it may seem like a small luxury, it has a very important effect on your hair.

Soft Fabric

Silk is made with extremely fine fibers produced by silkworms and is a natural fabric. It is breathable and very soft, which makes it delicate and appropriate for your hair needs. The smooth material ensures that it’s gentle on curls, and it can help keep it hydrated, strong, and healthy.

Retains Moisture

Often your hair can get damaged when you wash, dry, and style it.

A way to keep it healthy is by ensuring that it keeps a proper amount of moisture.

Most people use cotton fabrics. Sadly, it can absorb the moisture from your curls. But using silk scrunchies or pillowcases retain the moisture it needs.

You’ll even notice that there’s less breakage and frizz because your hair is more nourished and less dry.

Curl Preservation

Another way to keep your hair free of tangles, soft, and moisturized is by sleeping on silk at night to keep your curls intact! You can use silk pillowcases, but if you don't have one, you can use a scarf and lay it on top of your pillow and it will produce the same effect.

You will see how your curls will be more preserved and less frizzy.  If you also want to maintain your hairstyle, sleeping in a silk headscarf or wrap would be a big help!  You can also use it during the day to keep your hair intact! Covering it in a silk wrap prevents your hair from falling out of shape or breaking up.

Less Breakage

Using silk products such as scrunchies prevent your hair from breaking and becoming brittle. Have you noticed that you’ll find several strands of hair when removing a traditional hair tie?

It’s a problem people have become accustomed to, but that’s why with silk products, your hair won’t get pulled out when you tie or remove your scrunchie.

Less Greasy

Like what was previously mentioned, silk hair wraps can do wonders overnight! It can equally distribute the natural oils produced from the root to the tip. This means that your hair won’t be too oily, and you don’t have to worry about having greasy hair in the next few days. This allows you to prevent dryness and overwashing with shampoo.

Hypoallergenic

If you have sensitive or easily irritated skin, then this exciting fact may greatly benefit you. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, coated with a protein called Sericin which repels dust mites.

It is also resistant to mold, bacteria, and fungus. It is even used in severe skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis and baby blankets to protect their delicate skin. This proves that it is a gentle fabric, especially for those suffering from allergies, dry scalp, or sensitive skin conditions.

Temperature Regulating

You might already be aware that silk is cool to the touch. But did you know that it regulates your body temperature? You'll be able to feel warm when it’s cool and vice versa.

Using silk gives you that airy, light, and breathable feel that always keeps you cool and refreshed all day.
