Do you use sulfates, silicones, proteins or parabens?
We do not sulfates, silicones, parabens, phthalates, dyes, mineral oils or proteins in any of our products.
What is the difference between your shampoo and others? And what's the difference between Curls by Zenutrients and the regular Zenutrients hair products?
All Curls by Zenutrients and Zenutrients hair products are free from sulfates, parabens, silicones, dyes or proteins; so technically all are safe to use for wavy / curly /coily hair.
However, the Curls by Zenutrients formulas are special formulated for curls, so there are added benefits such as a blend of Avocado, Tea Tree, Coconut and Shea Butter for the much needed moisture and scalp care for that curly hair that is needed; so this line was formulated for curly needs and hair habits in mind.
The shampoo is low poo, and will produce little to no lather. You will need to use your fingertips to work the formula on your scalp, and it may take some getting used to with very little lather, but it is no less cleansing.
The conditioner was formulated with the goal to use as a regular conditioner but also with the knowledge that many curlies co-wash.
The deep conditioner was made with a lot of thickness and moisture because we understand curly hair is porous and tends to dry.
Can I continue to use the Zenutrients hair products and other brands with the Curls by Zenutrients line?
Yes of course! Feel free to mix and match, as everyone's hair needs differ.
May I use the Curls by Zenutrients products even if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Yes you can. All our products are safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
What is CGM?
It is a curly hair care method design for those who have naturally curly hair. Basically, CGM is taking care of your hair without using heat and harsh chemicals. CGM discourages the use of sulfate shampoos, instead use sulfate free shampoos or co-washing which means washing your hair with conditioner. The main purpose of this is to handle curly hair as gentle as possible to avoid damage.
Lorraine Massey Started the Curly Girl Method in her book called “Curly Girl: The Handbook”.
What to avoid using when doing CGM: Sulfates - Silicones - Alcohol - Shampoo - Heat - Combs & Brushes - Heavily Artificial Fragrances
Pros and Cons of doing the Curly Girl Method?
Pros: Better looking curls and happier healthier hair! Consistency pays off, you’ll eventually get the hang of it, we promise. No harmful chemicals = No damaged hair
Cons: It does require time, effort, and trial and error on what works and doesn't work for you. The transition period takes time, and it can be a restrictive routine, it has more "rules" than the usual wash and go kind of hair care. A lot experience scalp issues such as dandruff and hair fall (which is why we've incorporated Tea Tree into our formulas so that we can help you fight off that dandruff!
Steps in doing the Curly Girl Method:
• Final Wash - Before starting CGM, if you've been using shampoos and conditioners with a lot of sulfates and proteins, you have to do a final wash. This is when you are washing out the silicones in your hair. You can use a dishwashing detergent for this (no, that's not a joke!).
1. Cleanse - gently massage your scalp with your fingertips while using a sulfate free shampoo (low-poo) or by co-washing (conditioner wash).
2. Condition - Apply conditioner in all your sections, you may choose to leave it in or rinse it out depending on your hair type (go to our “basics” unit to know your hair type)
3. Style - Apply leave-in stylers in all sections and scrunch gel from ends to roots.
4. Drying - Plopping is placing your hair in the center of a t-shirt or a microfiber towel (don’t use regular towels it will make your hair frizzy). Let your hair plop for about 15 minutes to let the products settle in your hair before air-drying. - You can also use a diffuser to let your hair dry faster.
5. Scrunch Out The Crunch (SOTC) - when your hair feels hard because of the gel cast / products you use, just scrunch your hair until it becomes soft.
